HTC Desire hands-on

TAOYUAN, Taiwan - Specifications for the HTC Ace, also rumoured to be unveiled as the HTC Desire HD, were recently leaked to the public.

The device, which is supposed to bring HTC Evo 4G-level specifications to the GSM crowd, is understood to be named the Desire HD when it hits the market. This particular move is being done to retain the Desire brand name.

The smartphone will evidently share the 4.3" WVGA screen from the HTC Evo 4G and it will run on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor. It will also pack in an 8 megapixel camera capable of recording video in HD.

The device runs on the popular open-source Google Android operating system, possibly the latest Android 2.2 Froyo version, along with HTC's famous custom Sense UI.

In terms of multimedia, the HTC Desire HD plays-back various video formats, has SRS surround sound compatibility and supports Flash 10. In-built memory is reportedly restricted to 4GB. The device is also tipped to have a unibody design constructed from aluminum.

Release dates and pricing are currently unknown, although it could be a December holiday-season launch timing.
